Bernard Edward Mireault was born the year 1961 in Marville, France, where both parents were stationed while working for the Canadian Armed Forces.
In 1963, the Mireault family moved back to Canada, going back and forth between Quebec and Ontario every three years until finally settling in Rawdon, Quebec.
Raised as an Anglophone, Bernie attended high school in Joliette, Quebec from 1974 to 1978 and then attended Dawson College in Montreal. There he was enrolled in the Creative Arts program and though he stopped going after a year and a half, it was the first time he had received formal art training and it served to focus his ambitions. It was there he became absorbed in the craft of comic art storytelling and began working on his first Graphic novel, Mackenzie Queen, in 1982.
He went gone on to create The Jam, Dr. Robot and Bug Eyed Monster, and has worked for many North American publishers as an artist and colorist over the last two decades.
In 2003 he was awarded a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to create a graphic novel and he started working on To Get Her, his most ambitious project to date.
He lives with his partner and two boys in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. When not cooking dinner, working on comic art or planning animation, he enjoys playing music with his band, Bug-Eyed Monster.
