Hello, everyone. Thanks to the psychic photography of the lovely Kathryn Delaney, I discovered my latent super powers! I promise to use them only for good.
Posting to let you know about a massive update, a tsunami of new art has hit the beach over here on Bem island. Check the gallery section for that and a photo series of me in the studio by my partner, Kathryn Delaney.
Content has quintupled and that's cool! Hope you enjoy beach combing through the now rather extensive archives. More to come.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my website! Of course there would not be a website but for the attention and effort of Salgood Sam, who has helped many artists with this sort of thing, despite being a busy and productive artist and writer himself. He has taken the old site, which he also designed years ago, dusted it off and given it a nice new format and a new home. I think it looks nice and works great and I'm working hard to get some new content in there. Some Flash animation is on the way, and under the link music over on the left there is some music already! From my band, Bug-Eyed Monster. It's going to be jam-packed with stuff. Thanks a million, Max!
Max Douglas [aka Salgood Sam] has just finished drawing a graphic novel called Therefore Repent!, written by Jim Munro. To see what Salgood does when he is not busy helping his graybeard friend pierce the technical veil, check out his website at www.salgoodsam.com
What's New?
It's been a busy time for me.
My old work-mate, Gabriel Morrissette, brought me on board a rush project that he had to do for a young Canadian publisher by the name of Jackfruit Press.
I stepped in and after we wrapped that job up, I went on to illustrate a book in that same series about Sir Robert Borden.
After the Borden book, I agreed to do the design, layout and illustrations for a 96 page book about native land claims in Canada, called Your Home on Native Land, and it's turning out well. Written by Alan Skeoch. I'll put some pages up soon.
For something completely different.
Local Montreal animation moguls, Cinegroupe, have got me to do a newspaper-style comic strip for a website dedicated to their computer-animated Sci Fi comedy TV show, Tripping the Rift. To be updated on a regular basis. It will be a story in 52 parts. If you're interested in having a peek, go here on www.trippingtherift.tv and get ready for a little scrolling.
These are the things that fill my days now, aside from trying to figure out what to make for supper. There's a good possibility that an interesting collaboration involving comics writer Joe Casey, Oni comics and Hercules may happen after I clear away my current commitments. A 4 issue series that I would draw. That would be fun!
I'll try and get in the habit of posting to the blog more.
I did this for Andy Mangel's Wonder Woman fundraiser over in Portland, Oregon, to take place at the end of Oct, 2006. Funds raised from various activities go to help several local woman's shelters. Tons of artists contributed work to be sold by auction. Check out www.wonderwomanmuseum.com for more info.
Since late 2005, I've had the priviledge of participating in a wonderful comic art narrative [as a colorist] called "Revolution on the Planet of the Apes", published by a relatively new Canadian comic book company by the name of MR.COMICS.
MR. COMICS, Revolution on the Planet of the Apes 6 issue series is published by Stephen W. Ballantyne, Edited by Ty Templeton, Plotted by Ty Templeton and Joe O'Brien with dialogue written by Joe O'Brien, art by Salgood Sam [aka Max Douglas, issues 1-2 and 5.] and Tom Fowler [aka Tom Fowler, Issues 3-4 and 6.] and coloured {Personally, I prefer the spelling "color".] by myself {Issues 1-4.} and the appropriately named Art Lyon [Issues 5-6.}
This is comic art rock'n'roll. Everyone here steps up to the plate and hits a homer as far as I'm concerned. The diversity and enthusiasm is abundant. If you love comic art, please check out this series. Even if I do say so myself.
...have agreed to represent my soon-to-be-finished Graphic Novel, "To Get Her". I can hardly believe it. It's an honor that I don't take lightly and my motivation to finish this work and do the absolute best I can has increased exponentially. Gentlemen, thank you!
As an old bookstore guy, I'm really pleased to see the growth of the book trade aspects of comics. Slowly but surely the available publishers are growing - and that's feeding into the slow growth of the book trade side of comics. Yay diversity!
